The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) is a public university with four campuses in Scotland. It was founded in 1897 as the Glasgow and West of Scotland College of Commerce and was later known as the University of Paisley. Campus Location

The University of West of Scotland is located in Ayr, Scotland, with campuses also in Dumfries, Hamilton, Paisley, and London. 

The Ayr campus is located on the A77, just a few miles from the Ayr town center. The Dumfries campus is located just outside the town of Dumfries, near the M74. The Hamilton campus is located in the heart of South Lanarkshire, on the outskirts of Hamilton's town center.

University of the West of Scotland Entry Criteria

Admission Requirement

  • Where to Apply: Applicants should apply online via the University of the West of Scotland’s online application portal. 
  • Application Fees: For UK and EU applicants, the application fee is £29. For international applicants, the application fee is £50. 
  • Admission Requirements: To be eligible for admission to the University of the West of Scotland, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent qualification. Applicants must also meet the University’s language requirements and demonstrate their suitability for their chosen program through an interview or other selection process. Depending on the program, additional qualifications or work experience may also be required.

The University of West of Scotland requires applicants to hold a minimum of two passes in Scottish Higher or equivalent qualifications. A minimum of one of the passes must be in an Academic or Science subject. 

In addition to the academic entry requirements, applicants must also meet the University's English language requirements. These can include IELTS, TOEFL, and PTE scores. 

Applicants are also required to provide a personal statement outlining their motivations for applying. The University also stipulates that applicants must demonstrate commitment to their chosen field of study, as well as an understanding of the subject area and the potential to succeed.

University of the West of Scotland Visa

The University of the West of Scotland offers a variety of visa options to support international students. These include Tier 4 General, Tier 4 Child, Tier 4 (Doctorate Extension Scheme), and Tier 4 (International Graduate) visas. Tier 4 General visas are for international students who are undertaking a full-time course of study, or a combination of part-time courses, at an approved UK higher education institution. Tier 4 Child visas are for children between the ages of 4 and 17 who are coming to the UK to study at an independent school.
