Chuvash State University, Russia

Chuvash State University was established in 1967 and is one of the main universities in the Chuvashia region of Russian Federation. The university is located in Cheboksary which is the capital city of Chuvash Republic. The planning for the establishment of the university started in 1958-59 but could not be established because of lack of scientific staff and the absence of a material base in the republic. It was in November 1967, Chuvash State University was formed as a result of the merger of 2 schools – the Historical-Philological Department of the I. Ya. Yakovlev Chuvash State Pedagogical Institute and the Volga Branch of the Order of Lenin Moscow Energy Institute. As the creation of the university was the merger of 2 schools, the university had around 900 students and highly qualified staff at the time of its formation. This included 350 full-time students, 3 professors, highly qualified pedagogical staff and 30 senior lecturers. The university now has 27 divisions of study.
