Paris-Sud University is among the largest universities in France and is included among the most prestigious universities in France. It was established in 1971. The campus is distributed among many locations in the southern suburbs of Paris and covers about 236 hectares. The main campus is located in Orsay. It has affiliations with the University of Paris-Saclay and LERU. It has been ranked 1st in France, 9th in Europe and 37th worldwide by ARWU. The notable alumni include 5 field medalists and 2 Nobel laureates such as Albert Fert and Pierre-Gilles de Gennes.
